We've put together some FAQs which will help explain why this change has happened.
- Q1) Why has Chiltern Railways increased car park tariffs?
The revenue generated by car parking helps us to maintain and manage our car parks and is reinvested to help make future improvements.
It has been 4.5 years since there was an increase to car park charges. We need to fund a repairs and maintenance program, along with investments in new facilities such as electric vehicle charging points. We know that this increase may be significant for some of our customers, and we are working hard to ensure that we provide value for money and suitable facilities for all.
- Q2) What investments will you be making?
Some reinvestment has already recently taken place within the last year. This included relining of car parking spaces, simplifying payment methods (scan pay, which allows paying for carparking without the use of the App) and resurfacing the car park at Beaconsfield station.
We are committing to £5m of investment over the next 12 months which will include; the replacement and repairs of car park decking, resurfacing of damaged car park surfaces, relining of car park spaces and the provision of electric vehicle charging points.
- Q3) How much are the increases?
- The average increase is approximately 4.9%. This is the first time that the tariffs have been increased since January 2020 and is below the rate of inflation.
- Q4) Will the increases apply to all stations?
- The increase will affect all of our stations, except for Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway. These stations will have no price rises due to the upcoming project works which may cause some impact on the day-to-day parking arrangements at these stations.
- Q5) When will the car park tariff increases come into effect?
- These increases were effective from 29 July 2024.
- Q6) Does this apply to all car parking tariffs, including off-peak and season tickets?
- Yes, the increase applies to peak time, off-peak, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual car park season tickets.
- Q7) Are rail fares increasing at the same time?
- No, this change only applies to the cost to park at the car parks that we manage.
- Q8) Will this increase affect Blue badge holders?
- No. Blue Badge holders can still park at stations free of charge. If you do intend to park at the station using a blue badge, please register your blue badge with station staff, via the APCOA Blue Badge Permit Portal or with our customer relations before you travel.
- Q9) Will these increases affect the short stay and drop off time period (currently 20 minutes)?
- No. There are no changes to short -stay/drop off parking sessions, these will remain free of charge (up to 20 minutes).
- Q10) Are there any increases to motorcycle parking?
- No, this will remain free of charge in the designated bays.
