Our class 168 fleet are undergoing an extensive refresh program to help us deliver better journeys for our customers.
Our first refreshed train is now in passenger service and we anticipate completion of the full 168 fleet upgrade to take place over the course of the next two years.

- Why have you decided to refresh your current trains, why not get new ones?
As part of our Right route 2030 vision; over the past year we have been in negotiations with the Department for Transport to bring additional, newer trains into operation as soon as possible. We are urgently seeking Government approval to deliver these trains to help provide additional seats for customers, replacing our oldest trains with modern, more reliable models.
Alongside these additional trains, we are also working on a long-term update to Chiltern’s fleet. Our Vision 2030 report set out our ambition to secure low-emission and battery-powered trains to make journeys easier, greener and better. We are in the early stages of discussions towards securing these trains.If Government approval is granted in late 2024, we would aim to have additional trains running in 2025.
