Bicester to Oxford replacement bus timetable now available

Thursday, 5 December 2013

Chiltern Railways has released the rail replacement bus timetable which will apply between Bicester Town, Islip and Oxford from 15 February 2014.  The line closure enables construction work for the route upgrade to occur.

Customers can now check their rail replacement journeys in online booking systems and printable versions will be available in the next couple of weeks.  The timetable has been produced following consultation earlier this year and passengers should note that the timetable may be subject to minor alterations between now and February.

Tickets for journeys between Bicester Town/Islip and Oxford will be available to purchase on the bus.  For longer distance journeys customers can buy on the bus a permit valid as far as Oxford, which can then be exchanged at Oxford station for a through ticket to the intended destination.  Arrangements will be in place for bicycles to be carried.

Graham Cross, Business Development Director at Chiltern Railways said:  “We’ve been working hard to provide a dedicated rail replacement bus service to meet passenger demand.  We’re looking forward to starting construction work so that we can begin operating services from Oxford to London in 2015.”

Once completed, the project will give Oxfordshire a new rail route to London, improve services between Bicester and Oxford, and will re-establish a direct rail link between Oxford and High Wycombe.

The project includes a brand new railway station at Oxford Parkway which will be one of the best located stations in the county due to its proximity to the existing Water Eaton park and ride site beside the A34 / A40 / A44 junctions.

The new parkway station and its 800+ space car park will provide fast trains for thousands of Oxfordshire residents travelling to London.  By allowing passengers to park and ride for long distance train journeys as well the bus, it will release pressure on Oxford’s congested city centre.
